Ann M. Becker, 63, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Ann Marie Becker was born June 12, 1949, in Austin, Minn., daughter of Kenneth and Meredee (Sass) Dahlgren. She grew up in Austin where she graduated from high school and attended Austin Community College. Ann moved to Bancroft in 1980. She was united in marriage to Tom Becker on Dec. 4, 1982, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft. She worked at Kennedy’s Department Store, Bancroft Lumber Yard and Roy’s Café for several years. Ann provided daycare for 24 years and loved all the kids she helped raise. She had a special place in her heart for Tina, Michael and Scott Berte. Ann also taught CCD classes at St. John’s Catholic and helped organize the opening of the Bancroft Youth Center. Tom and Ann moved to Algona in 2011.
Ann loved and cherished the time she spent with her family and treasured her four granddaughters. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, reading, walking and swimming, and her cat Gramps. She spent much of her time cheering on all her granddaughters in their sporting events. Ann proudly was a stem cell donor for her sister Carla, who had leukemia.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Tom Becker of Algona; two children, Jodi McGuire and her husband Kevin of Algona, and Tim Jahr of Swea City; and four granddaughters, Ashley, Hilary and Grace McGuire of Algona, and Morgan Jahr of Bancroft; her mother, Meredee Dahlgren of Austin; five brothers and sisters, Eric (Lupi) Dahlgren of Ft. Collins, Colo., Scott (Judy) Dahlgren of Ft. Collins, Janet (Tim) Blood of Eugene, Ore., Carla (Gary) Rienken of Boulder Junction, Wis., and Dale (Shirlee) Dahlgren of Aurora, Colo.; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Kathy (Dr. Chris) Haeckler of Crocket, Texas, Dennis (Ruth) Becker of Bancroft, Jane (Jeffry) Lynn of Golden, Colo., Mary (Dr. Mark) Fedder of Collinsville, Ill., and Donna (Jon) Laakso of Bemidji, Minn.; 11 nieces and nephews; and seven great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Dahlgren; and parents-in-law, Vincent and Lorraine Becker.
A funeral Mass for Ann M. Becker will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with Father Edward M. Girres officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Algona.
