WINONA — The Austin girls basketball team dropped its third straight game when it fell to Winona (15-9 overall, 13-4 Big Nine) 74-60 on the road Tuesday.
Austin (9-14 overall, 6-11 Big Nine) committed 24 turnovers in the loss.
“We played well in spurts,” Austin head coach Todd Johnson said. “We’ve got to do a better job of converting lay-ups and free throws. We work hard to get those looks and we have to finish them.”
Austin played the game without senior 1,000-point scorer Jenna Svoboda, who Johnson is hoping will be back from her injury by the time the Section 1AAA tournament begins next Wednesday.
Austin 28 32 — 60
Winona 32 42 — 74
Austin scoring: Mer Gach, 15; Steph Justice, 15; Alex Hansen, 13; Merideth Fritz, 8; Taylor Lady, 6; Jocelyn Sheehan, 4; free throws: 36 percent (5-for-14)
