Myrtle Larson, 96, Adams

After a long and full life, Myrtle Larson, 96, died on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, in Burnsville, Minn. She was a lifelong resident of the Adams community.

Myrtle Angeline Larson was born on March 17, 1916, in Marshall Township to Clarence and Marie (Tufte) Matteson. Myrtle was baptized and confirmed at Little Cedar Lutheran Church. She graduated from Adams High School in 1934. She lettered in girls basketball all four years. She attended Mankato Beauty School after high school.

In April 1935, she returned home after getting her beautician license and was employed at Walt’s Beauty Salon in Austin. On Nov. 6, 1938, she was married to Nomer J. Larson. They started farming on the John Matteson homestead. She was a farm wife and mother to seven children. They farmed in Marshall Township until retirement in 1980.

After Nomer’s passing in the fall of 1993, she moved to assisted living in Adams. In August 2009, she moved to Augustana Emerald Crest in Burnsville, to be closer to a majority of her children.

Myrtle was a lifelong member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church. She was active in Circle and WELCA, and served on the Church Memorial Committee and in the Quilting Group. She was also a 4-H leader for the Lucky Clovers 4-H Club.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Nomer, in 1993; her parents; one sister, Corrine; a grandson, Duane Wigham Jr.; five brothers-in-law, Ober Larson, Leonard Tucker, Howard Herr, Curtis Larson and Douglas Thompson; and three sisters-in-law, Shirley Tucker, Ardis Herr and Verla Thompson.

She is survived by her seven children, Meridee (Duane) Wigham, Adams, Nylene (Ray) Newkirk, Wayzata, Minn., Coral (Keith) Ackman, Cosmos/Lake Lillian, Minn., Sue (John) Lupton, Maple Grove, Minn., Noel (Chris) Larson, Eagan, Minn., Lowell (Ruth) Larson, Hilton Head Island, S.C., Valerie (Tim) Altendorfer, Farmington, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law; and two sisters-in-law, Loris (Dorothy) Larson, of Austin, Minn., Daisy Larson of Onalaska, Wis.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with the Rev. Natacha Kemp officiating. Interment will be at Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery, Adams. Visitation will be at the Adams Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday for one hour before the service.
