The Packer gymnasts took third in the Class ‘A’ state tournament meet today at the University of Minnesota Pavilion.
New Prague won the state title, and Melrose finished second.
The trip was the Packer’s third state meet appearance in the past four years.
The Austin coaching staff says the girls set a state record for the floor routine with a 38.175 to breaking Perham’s 37.9 in 2010.

Five Packers will compete in the individual state meet tomorrow.

Austin junior Sela Fadness will be back to defend her state floor championship, after she tied for first in the event last season with Melrose’s Hailey Brinkman. Fadness also has a chance to do well in the all-around competition as she took third in the all-around this year.

Fadness will have some company in all four of her events as sophomore Abby Bickler, who took fourth in the floor and 16th in the all-around last year and eighth-grader Maddie Mullenbach, will also be competing in the all-around competition.

Austin sophomore Carolyn Hackel will compete on the floor and senior Abby Snater will compete in her first individual state meet on the beam.
