This past weekend was the second annual Cycle For A Cure at SASS (St. Ansgar Saints Spinning Club) in St. Ansgar, Iowa, to raise money for the Lyle Area Cancer Auction.
Thanks to the support of community members and their family and friends, we were able to fill 210 spots. The event kicked off on Friday evening with a kids yoga class followed by an adult yoga class and then a two-hour inspirational indoor cycling class. More cycling classes filled the day from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday.
One of the highlights from this event was when the employees of the St. Ansgar State Bank made their entrance by marching in with a snare drum and a chant about finding a cure for cancer. There were also back to back rides in the middle of the day to honor cancer survivors. One of the riders who is currently battling cancer rode with her family and friends. They all wore shirts that said “kick cancer in the SASS!”
The organizers were amazed to have one of the SASS riders offer to get sponsors to pledge money for each mile he rode. He rode the entire day on Saturday for a total of 13 hours and over 200 miles.
All of the instructors volunteered their time and made the event a lot of fun. There were 35 first time riders at SASS for this event.
The official amount raised will remain undisclosed until the Lyle Area Cancer Auction next January when SASS presents the check. However, last year $6,870 was raised, and we can tell you that we exceeded that this year.
Thanks again to the community for your support for this great cause!
Thank you,
