A timeline of events surrounding suspected murder

Below is a timeline of the events surrounding a suspected murder and car chase from Friday morning.

—Just after 3 a.m., the Austin Police Department receives a call about yelling and a person lying in the front yard of an apartment at 510 Fourth St. NW.

—An officer checks on the victim, who is already deceased. The officer also sees a vehicle speeding away from the scene and other officers pursue the vehicle west on Oakland Avenue and out of Austin on County Road 46.

—The Minnesota State Patrol, Mower, Freeborn and Waseca County sheriff’s offices join in the chase, which lasts for 50 miles and reaches speeds of 130 mph.

—The suspect crashes at 4:03 a.m. near Waseca and is ejected from the car. He is reported dead at the scene.

—Officers check on residents in the apartment and make sure they are OK.

—Officers cordon off Fourth Street and Fifth Place Northwest near the scene and continue investigating and clearing the scene into nightfall.
