Warm conditions cancel Dammen ski race

Saturday’s Dammen Nordic Cross Country Ski Race has been canceled, according to Jay C. Hormel Nature Center Director Larry Dolphin.

“I don’t see how there’s any way we could do it,” Dolphin said Friday morning, pointing to the warm weather and lack of snow as the race’s crippling factors.

Last year, a running race was held instead, but Dolphin said conditions are not suitable for that, either.

“It’s likely to be too icy and dangerous,” he said.

While the weather forecast makes rescheduling the ski race unlikely, Dolphin said, organizers will look into an alternative in the future, such as a running race in the spring.

Those who have preregistered will be able to get refunds, he added.
