ROCHESTER – The Austin wrestling team racked up six pins as it beat Rochester Century 42-36 on the road Thursday.

Austin sophomore Kole Igou came through with a big first period pin at 160 and Joe Kamp and Zach Nelson followed that with first period pins of their own to put the Packers in position to win when Mitch Tebay won by forfeit.

“Our upper weights really came through for us tonight. Kole Igou’s pin at 160 was a huge win for our team,” Austin head coach Bill Kinney said. “Century had snatched back a little momentum by winning in overtime at 152. Kole turned the tide by pinning an opponent we have had trouble beating in the past. Joe Kamp and Zach Nelson were very aggressive in their matches, securing pins to help seal the win for us.”

Devon Felten, Brandon Cotter and Brennen Russell all added pins for the Packers (5-5 overall, 3-3 Big Nine).

“Overall, we wrestled with much better technique and intensity tonight. With about a month to go before sections, this was a big step in the right direction,” Kinney said.
