Austin's Madison Overby looks to make a crossing pass against Mankato East Saturday afternoon at Riverside Arena.

The Austin girls hockey team couldn’t hold off the top team in the Big Nine for the entire night.

The Packers led 3-1 early, but the Cougars (17-5 overall, 14-1 Big Nine) scored four times in a eight-minute stretch in the third period to get the win.

Austin's Chloe Summerfield fends off Mankato East's Tatum Schulz on the way to the goal during the first period Saturday afternoon at Riverside Arena.

“We played right with them and then instead of playing to win, we played not to lose,” Austin head coach Denny Bray said. “We were on our heels right away in the third period.
