14. Firefighters rescue dog

Austin firefighter Troy Holtz carries a dog rescued from a fire at 802 9th Street SE Thanksgiving night to a waiting van to take it to a vet. Firefighters had to give the dog CPR after being taken from a house fire.

Austin firefighters rescued a dog after responding to a house fire at the 800 block of Ninth Street Southeast on Thursday, Nov. 23. Though the damage was contained to the kitchen area and the homeowners weren’t at home, firefighters did have to perform CPR on a dog they pulled from the house.

The dog was taken to the Austin Vet Clinic and held overnight, as vets were concerned it inhaled too much smoke. Austin Fire Chief Mickey Healey later said the dog made a full recovery.
