Kay Sandra Zahradnik, 70, Austin

Kay Sandra Zahradnik, 70, of Austin, Minn., died at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 11, 2012.
Kay was born Aug. 31, 1942, to Otto and Alys (Orr) Howard in LaCrosse, Wis. The family moved to Rochester, where Kay graduated from John Marshall High School in 1960. She began studies in physical education and teaching at Rochester Junior College, graduating in 1962. On June 22, 1963, Kay married Donald Joseph Zahradnik in Rochester. Kay was a bookkeeper and accountant for Woodland Resort which they owned and operated near Alexandria, Minn. They moved to Austin in 1983. Kay was the book store coordinator at Austin Junior College which is now Riverland until her retirement in 2008. Donald passed away on June 19, 2010. Kay enjoyed bowling, fishing, reading, knitting and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Steve (Laura) Zahradnik of Rose Creek, Minn., Doug (Chris) Zahradnik of Austin, Kurt (Kya) Zahradnik of Austin; three grandchildren, Megan, Bryce and Amanda; three sisters, Becky Bierbaum of Eyota, Minn., Dorothy (Jim) Welborn of Redding, Calif., Vicki Scharmer of Winona, Minn.; mother-in-law, Agnes Zahradnik of Austin; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Beverly) Zahradnik of Austin and Paul Pettersen of Stockton, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, on June 19, 2010; and sister-in-law, LaVonne Pettersen.
Memorial Services will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with the Rev. Dr. Stephen DeFor officiating. Friends may gather to greet the family from 10 a.m. to noon. Interment is at Rose Creek Enterprise Cemetery, rural Austin. Condolences may be made at www.worlein.com.
