MINNEHAHA — The Austin boys hockey team couldn’t close out a late surge as they lost to Minnehaha Academy (3-5-1 overall) 3-2 in overtime at the Minnehaha Invite Thursday.
Austin had to skate the first two minutes of overtime in penalty kill mode and Minnehaha’s Luke Erickson ended the game with a goal with four minutes left.
“We just couldn’t get in a groove in overtime,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said.
The Packers (2-5 overall) tied the game with four minutes left in the third period when Tony Baudler scored a goal on Marcus Stouil’s second of the night.
The Packers finished with 30 shots on goal, while Rainer Londino-Green had 35 saves.
“Rainer played really well tonight,” LaRock said. “We’re still giving up too many shots and we’re committing too many turnovers.”
Austin sophomore Adam Maxfield had Austin’s first goal on an assist from Ethan Larson.
Austin will play at 5 p.m. in Minnehaha Friday.
