Rumpza scores 36 as BP boys roll Cobras 95-84

DODGE CENTER — John Rumpza and Michael Thomas combined for 60 points as the Awesome Blossoms beat Triton (0-1 overall) 95-84 in a boys basketball game on the road Friday.

Rumpza, a sophomore center, poured in 36 points on 14-of-19 shooting while grabbing 19 rebounds and Thomas, a senior forward, scored 24 points to go with his six steals, five rebounds and four assists for BP (1-0 overall).

BP led by 20 at the half, but the Cobras made a late run.

“We definitely have a lot to work on defensively, but also offensively,” BP head coach John Bruns said. “We committed 28 turnovers, many of which were converted into fast breaks by the Cobras.”
