NFL Picks: Newton’s meltdown and the Falcons’ surge

Here are the picks:

San Diego at Kansas City

Talk about a couple of teams going nowhere – the Chiefs haven’t held a lead in regulation this entire season and the Chargers just put up a measly six points in a loss to the Browns.

No matter what happens, this will probably be an ugly affair.

CHARGERS 14, CHIEFS 10

Arizona at Green Bay

The Packers weren’t good last week, but luckily they were playing the Jaguars and luckily they have Aaron Rodgers, who made just enough clutch throws to get the win. If the Packers are missing Jordy Nelson again this week, we could see a replay of the Jacksonville game.

PACKERS 25, CARDINALS 13

Denver at Cincinnati

I was pretty shocked to hear NBC’s talking heads proclaiming the Broncos as the best team in the AFC after they manhandled what’s left of the Saints in Denver Sunday night. I think it’s time to point out a few things.

The Saints aren’t good this year.

The Broncos were already beaten handily by the Patriots, who play in the AFC and are starting to hit their stride.

The Steelers could get healthy and get hot.

And finally, what about Houston? They’ve still got a great defense and an offense that puts up points.

BENGALS 24, BRONCOS 20

Baltimore at Cleveland

It’s kind of weird to think that the Browns are playing the team that used to be the Browns.

RAVENS 31, BROWNS 10

Chicago at Tennessee

Jay Cutler was back to his shaky ways last week, but lucky for Chicago Cam Newton was even shakier, as he gave the Bears a gift pick for a touchdown to take the lead.

I don’t believe in the Titans enough to pick them, but if Cutler plays like he did last week, the Bears will be in another dogfight.

BEARS 28, TITANS 17

Miami at Indianapolis

Did you know the Dolphins are just a half game back from the Patriots? Neither did I until I looked it up. They’re actually 4-3.

DOLPHINS 27, COLTS 17

Carolina at Washington

As stated earlier, Newton was a wreck last week. When he wasn’t sulking after one of his teammates recovered his fumble in the end zone for a touchdown, he was throwing rocket balls over the middle that weren’t within 10 yards of his intended receivers.

Newton has plenty of talent, but his in danger of burning out if he doesn’t get some help soon.

REDSKINS 27, PANTHERS 14

Detroit at Jacksonville

The Lions pulled out a clutch win over the Seahawks last week. The Jaguars are without Maurice Jones-Drew, who pretty much was their offense.

LIONS 28, JAGUARS 14

Buffalo at Houston

This shouldn’t be close.

TEXANS 35, BILLS 17

Tampa Bay at Oakland

Carson Palmer is not to be trusted on a regular basis.

BUCS 24, RAIDERS 17

Minnesota at Seattle

The Vikings had an extra few days to think about their embarrassing home loss to the Bucs, and I don’t know if that was a good or bad thing. I do know Seattle has beaten Green Bay * and New England at home this season.

SEAHAWKS 26, VIKINGS 13

Pittsburgh at N.Y. Giants

Here comes that home game letdown for the Giants. The media will blow it out of portion and then the Giants will use it as motivation as they scream ‘nobody gave us a chance!’ the rest of the season.

STEELERS 28, GIANTS 20

Dallas at Atlanta

How long before people start talking about the Falcons going undefeated? Maybe after this game, which is on a national stage against a media favorite.

FALCONS 34, COWBOYS 20

Philadelphia The Saints’ defense will make Michael Vick look like an MVP candidate.

at New Orleans

EAGLES 34, SAINTS 23

Last week: 9-4; Overall: 69-47
