Used book sale returns to library

Bookworms will want to keep their eyes peeled during the next three days at the Friends of the Austin Public Library’s fall used book sale.
A presale for members only of the Friends of the Austin Public Library kicks off tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A public sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. A $5 bag sale will also be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Milly Burroughs, in her fifth and final year as chair for the sale, said there are thousands of books, which she and other volunteers have been sorting through for about a month.
“Her excellent leadership has produced the most successful book sales,” Friends member Dorothy Krob said about Burroughs. “She is a tireless Friend of the Library board member. She always stresses that it is a team effort.”
Among $2 hardcovers, $1 children/teens’ hardcovers and 50 cent paperback books, there are also VHS tapes and cassettes for a quarter apiece.
Proceeds from the book sale go to the Austin Public Library for programs, speakers and supplies throughout the year. Those who want to become members of the Friends may do so by signing up at the library front desk. The cost is $10 per year, per household. The Friends group is also looking for a new chairperson for future book sales.
