SPRING GROVE — The Grand Meadow football team gave No. 3 Spring Grove (7-0 overall, 7-0 SEC) a run for its money, but the Superlarks fell short 22-20 on the road Friday.

GM (6-0 overall, 6-0 SEC) scored on its first possession of the game, but it allowed a safety and fumbled inside its own 10-yard line in the first half.

“We kind of handed them some stuff and they’re too good for that,” GM head coach Gary Sloan said.

The Larks (6-1 overall, 6-1 SEC) led 13-9 at the break, but the Lions finally got going in the third quarter when they took a 22-13 lead on a 31-yard reverse pass on fourth and 15.

GM scored late in the game, but they couldn’t recover an onside kick and they allowed SG to get two first downs to run out the clock.

GM received some recent good news when senior running back Perry Stejskal was cleared to play and he will likely be in the lineup Wednesday when GM hosts Lyle-Pacelli.

“It’ll be the first time we’ve had our whole team healthy all year,” Sloan said.

With the win, the Lions clinch a share of the SEC title and they will have the top seed in the section tournament.
