As Dr. Doug Bibus moves Lipid Technologies into his facility in Austin, his neighbors, start-ups GoBe Golf and Ellumilite, are doing well.
GoBe Golf co-owner Joe Allen said the company is where they hoped to be, with three employees at the Austin warehouse and 21 sales representatives throughout the country.
He and co-owner Jeff Thatcher, president of Austin Packaging Co., started the business this spring with a golf shoe line aimed at serious golfers. Allen said they signed their first international distributor in Europe, and they’re looking to expand into Asia. He said the real test will come this spring, when everyone is looking for new golf shoes.
At Ellumilite, Vice President Steve Comer said while they don’t have the assembly running yet, they are progressing.
“It’s slower than we wanted, but we are making progress,” he said.
Ellumilite, a lighted screen printing producer, opened in early August. The company has six employees, but hopes to have 20 employees by the end of its second year and 50 to 100 by the fifth year. Comer said they spent the first couple months sending out samples, making calls, and getting small orders. He said they are working on a large lighted display they hope to take to production soon.
