NORTHFIELD —  Austin couldn’t get by Northfield’s height as the No. 12 seeded Packers fell to the No. 5 seeded Raiders in three games Wednesday night in the first round of the Section 1AAA tournament.

Austin lost by game scores of 25-13, 25-10 and 25-8 and saw their season come to an end with a 2-21 record.

“They were a really tough team, but despite the score we played really well,” coach Barry Brobeck said. “We were 94 percent serving tonight and that’s something we’ve struggled with all year.”

Austin was led by Taylor Lady with eight kills and 10 digs. Jocelyn Sheehan and Jenna Svoboda were both perfect serving with Sheehan also coming up with nine digs and Svoboda with eight digs.

Rachel Wahlert had five kills at the net.

Despite just two match wins throughout the season, the Packers bring back some weapons next year including sophomores Alex Hanson, Mer Gach and Wahlert who is a junior. This will be added to some younger players Brobeck sees contributing in the future.

“We have some young kids coming up that are going to be fabulous,” Brobeck said. “We’re finally going to see some height and that’s something we’ve been missing.”
