An Austin man arrested in February for passing counterfeit money pleaded guilty and received his sentence.
Drew Novak, 19, pleaded guilty Friday in Mower County Court to uttering or possessing counterfeit currency, a gross misdemeanor. He received a stay of adjudication and will serve one year of probation.
Novak was arrested after officers identified him from video surveillance as the man who gave a fake $20 bill to a cashier at the Fourth Street NW Kwik Trip on Feb. 18, according to the court complaint.
Novak went to the store at about 12:30 a.m. to get change for a $20 bill. He received two $10 bills in return. Kwik Trip staff didn’t report the fake bill until about 6:15 a.m. According to the court complaint, the employee noticed the bill was smaller than the others.
