Column: Packer soccer team has a lot on the line

The Packer boys soccer team will be on a mission Tuesday night. They’re heading to Rochester Community and Technical College to take on Rochester Lourdes in the Section 1A title game with a trip to the Class ‘A’ state tournament on the line.
The Eagles (18-1 overall) are ranked No. 4 in Class ‘A’ and they beat the No. 10 ranked Packers (16-3 overall) 4-2 earlier this season.
On paper and on the field, the Packers and Eagles couldn’t matchup with each other any better. Each team has 13 seniors, each team can score — Austin has 83 goals this season and Lourdes has 100 goals — and each team can play defense — Austin allowed 18 goals this season and Lourdes allowed 16 goals.
I’m sure the Packers remember quite well that Rochester Lourdes beat them in the section title game last season, but I’m also sure that some of the Eagles might remember when Austin beat them in the section title game in 2009.
If you’ve ever had any interest in soccer at any level, I urge you to go check out the Packers take on the Eagles Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at RCTC Stadium in Rochester.
It’s a pretty short trip to see some great soccer with high stakes.
