Virginia Engelman

Virginia L. Engelman, 94 of Austin, died Friday August 31, 2012 at Comforcare.

Virginia Lou Parker was born July 1, 1918, in West Concord, Minn. to Harry and Pearl (Freeman) Parker.

She attended Austin High School, graduating in 1936. On April 25, 1938, Virginia married Howard Tapp in Brownsdale. The couple lived on a farm near there. Howard died in 1951, after which Virginia moved into town, and then to Austin in 1953. On March 2, 1957, she was united in marriage to Cecil J. Engelman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Cecil died Feb. 20, 1998. Virginia then moved to the Cedars and lived there for 16 years.

An active member of First Baptist Church in Austin, Virginia was involved in the missionary group. She enjoyed cooking, doing crafts, and camping.

Survivors include her children, David (Sedsel) Tapp of Zumbrota, Dean (Judy) Tapp of Rochester, Twila Huehn of Austin, and Connie (Garry) Anderson of Coon Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Wikre of Owatonna, Geraldine (Arlo) Sturm of Austin, Mary (Orville ‘Wes’) Westerman of Bon Aqua, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Pearl Parker; her two husbands Howard and Cecil; one sister, Harriet Francis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Austin with Rev. Dennis Tapp and Rev. David Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brownsdale. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
