Norbert Ellis, 73, of Sandstone, Minn., passed away on Sept. 22, 2012, at his home.

Norbert Lee Ellis was born on May 18, 1939, in Austin, Minn., to George and Laura (Ackerman) Ellis. He graduated from Austin High School in 1958, and served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. Norbert married Judith Bauer on Feb. 8, 1964, in Austin. During his life he worked a variety of jobs which included carpentry and roofing. While living in Rochester, he worked at the Mayo Clinic, did factory work when he lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and after moving to Sandstone his occupations were in farming and recycling. Norbert enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and his son Tim.

Norbert is survived by his wife Judy; sons Ted (April) Ellis and Troy (Anne) Ellis; daughter Tammy (Rob) Sweeney; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters Betty Jane Walrath of Missouri, Carol Brecht of Hinckley, Minn.; brothers Rodney Ellis of Hinckley, Paul Ellis of Austin, Raymond Ellis of Dexter, Minn., and Mark Ellis of Hinckley.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Methven Funeral Home, Sandstone. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Interment will be at Clover Cemetery, Hinckley, with full military honors by Hinckley Honor Squad.
