LESTER PRAIRIE — The Awesome Blossoms simply didn’t have an answer for Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity quarterback Alex Heigl Friday night on the road.

Heigl ran for 328 yards and six scores as No. 8 ranked LPHT beat No. 8 Blooming Prairie 61-32 in a rematch of last year’s Class ‘A’ state quarterfinal game.

“He’s good and there’s no doubt about that,” BP head coach Chad Gimbel said. “There were times that we had him in the backfield and he just slipped out and got away. You prepare for a guy like that, but he’s hard to emulate.”

BP sophomore John Rumpza threw for 382 yards and five touchdowns and three interceptions and Michael Thomas had 158 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

LPHT jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and the Blossoms mustered just 10 yards on the ground.

“We got behind and that put us on a hole,” Gimbel said. “We couldn’t run the football at all.”
