Man killed in Afghanistan attended Minnesota State

MINNEAPOLIS — An Army sergeant from Indiana killed in Afghanistan spent time at a Minnesota college.

The Star Tribune reports 26-year-old Sgt. Kyle Osborn lived in Gage Residence Hall at Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2006.

The Department of Defense reported Saturday Osborn, now of Lafayette, Ind., died Thursday in Muqer, Afghanistan, after his unit came under attack from small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment at Camp Ederle in Vicenza, Italy.
