Hammer thrower convicted of assault

A felony and misdemeanor charge against an Austin teen who reportedly threw a hammer after someone told police he had marijuana were dropped Friday in Mower County Court.
Michale Allen Dieser, 19, was, however, convicted of misdemeanor fifth-degree assault in the case. The dismissed charges were for felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon misdemeanor fourth-degree property damage.
Officers learned that Dieser got violent shortly after someone turned him in for allegedly possessing marijuana on April 17. According to the court complaint, Dieser punched and kicked walls, fought with another man and then threw a hammer at him. The complaint states that the man who intervened also complained that the hammer hit his shin.
Dieser was sentenced to one year of probation and 50 hours community service.
