FAIRMONT — The Packers struck first, but they couldn’t hang on in a 3-1 loss to Fairmont in the their girls soccer season opener on the road Thursday.

Senior Nicole Lipari scored for Austin (0-1 overall) early in the contest, but Fairmont tied the game up right before the half and it took over in the second half with two more goals.
