Nelson E. Quantz, 92, passed away at Family Loving Kare in Sahuarita, Ariz., on July 21, 2012.

Nelson was born to Ernest and Anna Quantz on Dec. 28, 1919, near Alpena, Mich. He served in the Army from 1940 to 1945, most of the time in Panama. He was the oldest of 17 children. He worked for the Hormel Foods Corp. from 1948 to 1979, at which time he moved to Arizona.

He is survived by his wife Frances of Green Valley, Ariz.; daughters, Yvonnie (Jim) Furhwirth of New Ulm, Minn., Karen Thompson of Burnsville, Minn., and Susan (Mike) Lemmer of Rochester, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Lisa Birk and Kim (Scott) Schiesser, both of Austin, Minn.; sisters Leta (Joe) Tomcala of Green Valley, Hazel Edgar of Manitor Beach, Mich., Veronica Diemond of Alpena, Mich., Delma Sarimicanic of Albuquerque, N.M.; brothers Norman (Rosalind) Quantz of Waco, Texas, Dennis (Janet) Quantz of St. Clair Shores, Mich., Neil Quantz of Rosamond, Calif.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother and father; wife Verone; and sisters Myrtle Voss, Betty DeShano, Clarise Bates, Annabelle Pfieffer and Janice Hobart; and brothers Albert, Chester, Paul and Rodney. Private interment of his ashes will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in summer 2013.
