Melvin Paul Meyer, 74

Melvin Paul Meyer, 74, of Wykoff, Minn., died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Melvin was born Nov. 4, 1937, in a farmhouse outside of Fillmore, Minn., the son of Paul and Jennie (Zwart) Meyer. He grew up with his one brother and three sisters on a farm five miles south of Wykoff. He was baptized into faith November 22, 1937, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wykoff. He attended grade school at the Forestville country school and St. John’s Lutheran Wykoff, and celebrated his confirmation on May 13, 1951. In June of 1955, he graduated from Wykoff High School and was inducted in the military in September 1958. He was married to Irma Rose Doberenz on Sept. 29, 1962, and they began their married life in a log cabin near Cherry Grove, Minn. Melvin and Irma purchased a farm near Forestville State Park where they lived for their married life. The Lord blessed Melvin and Irma with five children.

Melvin enjoyed farming, trout fishing, deer hunting, riding and driving horses, playing cards with his family, loving his grandchildren, worshiping and serving in his church, and expressing his faith in Jesus Christ his Savior to those around him. Melvin lost his battle with leukemia and left this world to be with his Savior on Aug. 7, 2012.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Irma of Spring Valley, Minn.; five children, Kevin (Angela) Meyer of Lewiston, Minn., Duane (Sharon) Meyer, Bruce Meyer, Teresa (Jeremy) Glocke all Spring Valley, and Anita Meyer of Fond du Lac, Wis. 11 grandchildren, Jeffrey Meyer, Felicia Meyer, Alyssa Meyer, Brady Meyer, Magen Meyer, Kyle Meyer, Sylvia Glocke, Kylie Meyer, Jessie Meyer, Gabrielle Glocke and Katelyn Glocke; three sisters, Maxine Morse of Plano, Texas, Marlene (Donald) Mueller of San Antonio, Texas, Karen Moga of Los Gatos, Calif.; and one brother, Donald (Ellie) Meyer of Houston, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Austin, Minn. with Pastor Theodore W. Barthels officiating. Burial with military rites will be held at the Forestville Cemetery in rural Wykoff. Friends may call from5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley and also one hour prior to services at the church Saturday.
