Goodbye to a modest bowler

Letter to the Editor,
This is in regard to Duane Ulven, who passed away recently. I had the pleasure of knowing him for many years.
We played fast-pitch softball, hunted and bowled, and did a lot of things together. The one thing that a lot of Austin people remember was he was the first Austin bowler to bowl a 300 game. Irony of ironies, he had to be coaxed to go out to the TV station as the first 300 bowler. We had to go with him so he would go.
Recently, in a note from his sister, Sherry Kroneman, she mentioned that two of her sons had 300 games, and a grandson had a 299. She also mentioned that Duane taught them how to bowl. His delivery was smooth as silk. I hope they learned that too.
This was the kind of person he was, very modest and kind to a fault. In my life, I have never met anyone to match him. Farewell, to fine, fine, great guy.
