Gladys A. Allas, 93, of Austin, Minn., died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.
Gladys Ardella Boysen was born at home on Nov. 10, 1918, in Dodge County, Minn., to Herman and Mabel (Buck) Boysen. She attended school in Dodge County and Austin, moving to Austin at age 13.
On Feb. 14, 1935, she was united in marriage to Peter Allas at the St. Olaf parsonage in Austin. Gladys worked for Hormel Foods for 33 years, retiring in 1977.
A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she helped with funerals, Gladys enjoyed sewing and making quilts. She also did ceramics and was a lifetime member of DAV. In 2001, Gladys moved to the Chauncey Apartments.
Survivors include five daughters: Gloria Njos of Waltham, Barbara Hofius (Francis Graves), Sandra Nelson (Gordy Cimmiyotti), Susan (Donald) Madison and Debra (Robert) Watkins, all of Austin; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Mabel; her husband, Peter; two brothers; one sister; four sons-in-law; one grandchild; one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with Todd Portinga, A.I.M., officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Casket bearers are Jerry Bissell, Jody Bissell, Jeff Hofius, Randy Hofius, Eric Condit, David Madison, Matthew Watkins and Peter Watkins. A luncheon will be served at the Eagles Club in Austin following the cemetery service.
