Earl George Schechinger, 90, formerly of Adams, Minn., died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Meadow Manor Care Center in Grand Meadow, Minn.
He was born May 17, 1922, in Carroll, Iowa, to Vitus J. and Genevieve (Weiland) Schechinger. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1940 and then moved to Adams in 1960, where he farmed until his retirement. On Jan. 2, 1949, Earl married Celine Mae Kohorst in Arcadia, Iowa. The couple raised two sons. A member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Austin, Minn., Earl also belonged to the Moose, the Eagles, and the Elks. He enjoyed playing cards, going to auctions, and taking short trips. He had a special love for the farm and his Farmall tractors. His grandchildren were very dear to him.
Survivors include his wife Celine ‘Mae’ Schechinger of Austin; his sons Joe (Kim) Schechinger of Austin and George (Sue) Schechinger of Adams; four grandchildren, Craig, Angela, Kayline, and Kristine; sisters Marvel Morales of Mexico City and Viola Berning of Carroll; brother Carl (Betty) Schechinger of Hutchinson, Kan.; sister-in-law Betty Schechinger of Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents Vitus and Genevieve; brother Donald; brothers-in-law Danny Morales and Larry Berning.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Austin with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
