880 pavers sold

Thank you to all that have purchased and donated to Austin’s Veteran Memorial.

As a committee, we started this project in 2009 with the goal to sell 1,056 pavers so that we would have a Veterans Memorial in Austin/Mower County that all veterans, families and friends would be very proud of and would represent the patriotic communities well.

Three years later, we have sold 880 pavers and have added the finishing touches to the Memorial Statute, erected flags and poles of all branches of the service and including the POW/MIA, added an Eagle of Peace and very appropriate saying and names in the memorial site, plus trees, flowers and shrubs.

We still have spaces for 176 pavers. After these 176 pavers are sold we have completed our project as we had planned. So if you still plan on purchasing a paver for your family, friend, you should do so now as we are near completing the project.

There are many family members with veterans without pavers, military service members still on active duty. There are some misconceptions still out in the community that you must be a war veteran and deceased. The answer is that you need to be an honorably discharge military veteran or presently serving our great country honorably.

We hope that this project never ends while we have veterans in our community, but we want to terminate this project and re-plan and see how we can add more space for an extension to the present project.

I want to thank all of you for your great support of this tremendous project.

Veteran Memorial Chair
