Hunting, shooting demos set for youth this weekend

Youngsters can learn their fair share of hunting and marksmanship techniques this Saturday near Austin.

The Cedar River Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is holding its annual Jakes Conservation Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Valley Conservation Club on Highway 218, north of Austin. Youth age 17 and younger are welcome to attend with a parent or guardian. The event is held in cooperation with the Mower County Pheasants Forever.

Events will include trap shooting, .22 caliber safety and marksmanship, BB gun safety and marksmanship, archery, trapping demos, calling tips, dog training, crafts and more. Special prizes will be awarded, as well.
