Elna Rabine Deyo, 98, Austin

Elna Rabine Deyo, 98, passed away at the Adams Health Care Center on Saturday, July 14, 2012. She had been a resident there since 2008.

Elna was born Dec. 30, 1913, to Charles and Christine (Wohlers) Rubin at Dexter, Minn. and attended the Elkton High School.

In 1931 she was married to William F. Rabine and lived in the Elkton-Dexter area before moving to St. Paul. Widowed at the age of 32 with four minor children, Elna worked a variety of jobs prior to her marriage in 1959 to Lewis Deyo. After his death in 1967, Elna retired to the Brainerd area where she remained until moving to St. Mark’s Apartments in Austin in October of 2002.

Her retirement years were continually busy with her talents for crafting, quilting, needle-work, gardening, cooking, reading and making gifts for her children and grandchildren. She also made baby bonnets for the Austin Medical Center and Presbyterian missions and crosses to include in cards to friends and relatives.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two baby sisters, Alice and Arlene; three brothers, Louis Rubin Harold Rubin and Elwin Rubin; granddaughter Lynette Ogren; three great-grandchildren; sons-in-law Fred Schultz and Gary Schutte; and in 2003 her two sons William Rabine from a heart attack and Bruce Rabine from cancer.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Arlene and Harvey Buchite, Cameron, Wis.; Inez Chris Schutte, Coon Rapids, Minn.; daughter-in-law Betty Rabine, Austin, Minn.; sister-in-law Priscilla Rubin, Austin; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at the Dexter United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. with visitation one hour before the service. The Rev. Karen Ashton officiating, with burial following in the Dexter Cemetery.
