Austin jobless rate was 5.2% in June

Austin’s jobless rate went up from last month but is still well below what it was in June 2011.

The non-seasonably adjusted jobless rate in June was 5.2 percent, according to data released this morning by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, up from 4.8 percent in May but below the 6.2 percent rate in June 2011. The number of unemployed went from 659 in May to 714 in June, an 8 percent increase, and the number of employed fell from 13,144 to 13,053.

Mower County’s jobless rate also increased from May to June, from 4.5 to 5 percent, but is also well below the June 2011 mark of 6 percent.

Minnesota’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 5.6 percent for the third-straight month, and the national number held at 8.2 percent for the second-straight month.
