Lefty’s Bar, a mainstay on the east side of Austin for nearly seven decades, is closed.
The bar, at 421 10th St. NE, has been closed for over two weeks and its phone is disconnected. The Herald could not reach Jeff Daily, who is listed at the Mower County Recorder’s office as the bar’s owner.
The bar, under Lefty’s Bar/Daily Companies Inc., has two federal tax liens against it; one for $31,117 dated Nov. 2, 2011, and another for $3,140 from March 2, according to the Mower County Recorder’s office. Lefty’s is also delinquent on $2,476 for property taxes in 2011 and late for $1,246 in 2012, according to the Mower County Auditor-Treasurer’s office.
The bar was closed Jan. 1-5 for a remodeling project, which included a new dance floor, remodeled walls and bathroom and flatscreen TVs, among other improvements. Bar management said at the time they were attempting to attract a younger crowd, and they started to change their image a few years ago by booking bands on weekends on a regular basis.
