Lloyd Elmer Freitag, age 84 of Austin, died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born Aug. 9, 1927 in Austin, Minn. to Elmer and Fern (Lewis) Freitag. He was employed by Hormel Foods Corporation, working in curing and in the electric truck shop.
Lloyd retired in 1985 after working for Hormel for 41 years and seven months. After serving in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946, he married Lorraine Sand on Sept. 14, 1946, in Austin. Lloyd’s favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and trapping. He loved to dig in the dirt, whether digging ginseng or metal detecting.
Lloyd and Lorraine spent years camping at Money Creek. A lover of motorcycles, he got his first Harley as a teenager. He and Lorraine toured the country on the Harley. They also enjoyed dancing. Lloyd loved his family and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He always had big hugs, a warm heart and a smile and a wink for everyone.
Survivors include his wife Lorraine, Austin, Minn.; his son: Dennis (Linda) Freitag, Branson, Mo.; his daughter: Deanna (Wayne) Golberg, Austin; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings Darwin (Lorraine) Freitag and Marlys Quam, both of Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Fern.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday June 20, 2012, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Rev. William Odermann and Pastor Ted Cunningham officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post 91 and V.F.W. Post 1216. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
