HASTINGS – Austin junior Alex Thorson shot his best round of the year to earn his first career trip to the Class ‘AAA’ state golf meet at the Section 1AAA meet in Hastings Monday.

Thorson shot a 75, which gave him a two-day total of 153, to earn the state berth.

“Alex managed the course very well, and even took some aggressive shots that really turned out well for him,” Austin head coach Chris Gogolewski said. “If he continues to stay focused and energized, he has a legitimate shot at posting a great score up at state.”

Austin sophomore Isaac Christianson shot an 87, which gave him a two-day total of 171 as his season came to an end.

“Isaac battled, but he had trouble hitting the fairway off the box,” Gogolewski said.

Thorson will begin state tournament play Tuesday at Bunker Hill Golf Course in Coon Rapids.
