A woman whose father and Yorkshire Terrier were attacked by a pit bull in March reached a settlement with the owner of the pit bull Tuesday in Mower County Court.

Mary McGrane, of Maple Grove, whose Yorkshire was killed in the attack, settled with Susan Strack of Austin for $675. McGrane originally sued for more than $1,200, which included the price of purchasing the terrier, vet bills and medications.

McGrane’s terrier received puncture wounds through the heart and stomach, and it’s shoulder was torn off when the pit bull ran out Strack’s front door and attacked, McGrane said in her civil claim. McGrane’s father also sustained puncture wounds to his hands.

A community service officer placed Strack’s pit bull in the pound, and the Austin City Council voted 4-2 on April 2 to euthanize the dog, which it deemed dangerous.

Strack may make installments of $75 dollars each month but must pay $1,000 if she defaults on the agreement.
