Blue Sox fall to Rochester Royals

The Austin Blue Sox got a good look at their top three pitchers and came away with some mixed results as they lost to the Rochester Royals 10-3 in Marcusen Park Thursday.
Jamie Adams allowed eight of the runs in just two innings, while Cody Meyer struck out six and allowed two runs and three innings and John Kirby struck out five and allowed zero runs in four innings.
“We wanted to see our three best guys against a good ‘B’ team and I found out some good things and some bad things,” Blue Sox manager Josh Kunze said. “Cody’s probably ready for the next progression and John hasn’t thrown a lot this summer, so we’ll continue to work him in.”
The Blue Sox (4-10 overall) scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning as Carter Guthmiller and Jamey Pratt each came up with RBI singles, but Austin didn’t have a lot of scoring chances.
Blue Sox catcher Clay Eustice went 3-for-3 as he had nearly half of Austin’s seven hits.
“We’re still a work in progress,” Kunze said. “Clay had a great game and he stung the ball.”
