Wilco to play Mayo Civic Center July 2

A Grammy Award winning group will get the Fourth of July celebrations started in style locally this year.

Wilco is returning to Mayo Civic Center at 7:30 p.m. July 2 to support its latest release, 2011’s “The Whole of Love.”

Jeff Tweedy formed the acclaimed Chicago sextet in the mid-1990s, and has released 10 albums with the band since.

“The Whole Love” is the third album by the band’s current lineup, which dates to 2004 when guitarist Nels Cline and guitarist/keyboardist Patrick Sansone joined Tweedy, founding bassist John Stirratt, drummer Glenn Kotche and keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen. They released “Sky Blue Sky” in 2007 and the Grammy-nominated “Wilco (The Album)” in 2009.

Wilco won the Grammies for Best Alternative Album and Best Recording Package for its 2004 release “A Ghost is Born.”
