Southland softball team gets a split at Fillmore Central

HARMONY — The Southland softball team had a couple of solid pitching performances as they split a doubleheader with Fillmore Central (5-7 overall) on the road Thursday.

The Rebels (7-4 overall, 6-4 Three Rivers) won the opener 6-2 and dropped the nightcap 6-3.

In the opener, Southland senior Kelli Smith took a perfect game into the seventh inning before she allowed a couple of hits and a walk. In the nightcap, Southland freshman Sam Emanuel allowed just two earned runs, while striking out seven in six innings of work.

“The second game came down to the little things and we had a couple of costly errors,” Southland head coach Greg Schulte said.
