BLOOMING PRAIRIE — The Awesome Blossoms showed exactly why they are the top seed in the Section 1A West Division softball tournament when they beat No. 8 Glenville-Emmons (2-15 overall) 13-0 in five innings Friday.
BP senior Julia Manges rediscovered her swing in the win as she went 2-for-2 with a triple and 3 RBI from the No. 9 spot in BP’s order.
“I’ve been sick a lot this year. But I had a lot of energy today and it feels good,” Manges said. “We were prepared for this game and we worked hard all the way through it.”
BP (16-3 overall), which will play in the subsection semifinals in Todd Park in Austin at 11 a.m. Saturday, took the game over in the third inning when Kelsey Kubista tripled in two runs, Manges knocked in two runs with a single and Tricia DeBoer and Jenna Krell each knocked in runs on groundouts to make it 10-0.
“It was a good first game. I think we started out a little slow, but everyone did things well,” BP head coach Ali Mach said.
BP junior Shelbi Swenson allowed an infield single to the first batter she faced, but she didn’t allow another hit or walk the rest of the way as she struck out 10 in five innings of work.
“We thought about pulling her at the end, but she was insistent to pitch the last inning,” Mach said. “She’s a gamer, she wants to win and she wants to do well.”
