BLOOMING PRAIRIE — The Blooming Prairie softball team beat Waseca 5-4 in 12 innings and topped Kasson-Mantorville (16-2 overall) 11-4 in a home tournament in BP Saturday.

BP junior Shelbi Swenson threw 19 innings on the day, while striking out 30 and allowing just four earned runs.

The No. 10 ranked Awesome Blossoms (12-2 overall) past quite a few tests to survive their 12-inning win over Waseca (8-6 overall) and they finally ended the game when Sam Ivers roped a one-out, bases loaded single to score Jenna Krell and give BP the win.

“I was just trying to hit the ball,” Ivers said. “It was a long game so it was kind of nice to get it over with.”

BP had trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the 11th but they bounced back to tie things up. Jenna Krell bunted in a run to make it 4-2, but Tricia DeBoer was thrown out at the plate while trying to score from second. Then, with two outs Kelsey Kubista lifted a two-out single that scored a run and Shelbi Swenson also scored on the play when Waseca threw the ball away while trying to get her in a rundown between second and third.

“We really settled in towards the end of the game and I think we just knew we had to get to work and start hitting better,” Krell said. “It’s pretty important to finish off a twelve inning game. We worked really hard for it.”

Waseca took the 4-1 lead when Samantha Barrie doubled in two runs and Abbe Hoehn bunted in another run.

Ivers said she might of had a chance to get to Barrie’s double, but she wasn’t about to let the play bother her.

“I tried to forget about it and not stress about it, so I could start new,” Sam Ivers said.
