The Austin boys golf team had some mixed results as it finished seventh in the Big Nine golf meet at Austin Country Club Friday.

The Packers tallied a team score of 339 as they were led by sophomore Isaac Christianson, who tied his career-best score with a 78.

“I just kind of got in a zone and it went off from there. It went good,” Christianson said. “(The Big Nine meet) is a pretty big deal and it was fun to be a part of. It was all kind of connecting for me.”

For Austin junior Alex Thorson, his day gave him a chance to reflect and hope for a better result at the Section 1AAA meet in Hastings Tuesday. Thorson shot an 80 after he hit a little bit of trouble on hole No. 16 that saw him end up three-putting a hole.

“I was playing decent but I finished terrible,” Thorson said. “I’m a little disappointed, but we’ll see how sections go. Hopefully it goes a lot better and I don’t self destruct.”

Austin sophomore Tony Baudler shot a 93 and he said it was a little tough for him to get going early on.

“I didn’t really get a lot of sleep last night thinking about today. But it was perfect conditions, and I couldn’t roll the ball in the hole,” he said. “It’s a big meet and it puts you in the mindset of what to expect. I’m going to go the range and work on my putting (to get ready for sections).”

Austin eighth grader James Snee shot an 88.

Austin scores: Isaac Christianson, 78; Alex Thorson, 80; James Snee, 88; Tony Baudler, 93; Cole Kroneman, 100; Ethan Morey, 102
