An Iowa-born woman who used to perform live dance in Austin is releasing a book about her time with accompanist Mabel Kelso, who was also the accompanist for “The Music Man” creator Meredith Wilson.

“The Days of Song and Lilacs” by Mary Beth Sartor Obermeyer was released May 15. Obermeyer, who grew up in Mason City, Iowa, performed for many Iowa towns and some Minnesota towns including Austin during the 1940s and ‘50s with Kelso. Obermeyer describes her time performing as well as what happened when Kelso suffered a stroke in 1954.

Obermeyer will sign copies of her book at Mrs. Paroo’s porch in Mason City from 1 to 4 p.m. May 26.
