The Riverland Community College baseball team is on the one loss from elimination after being shutout for just the fourth time this season in the first game of a three-game playoff series against Central Lakes in Dick Seltz Field Friday.
The No. 2 seeded Blue Devils (32-11 overall) lost to No. 7 seeded Central Lakes (8-37 overall) 1-0.
The Blue Devils had just six hits in the loss as Joseph Wagner pitched just under five scoreless innings in relief.
“It was just poor hitting,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “Our guys were trying to make contact instead of hitting trying to hit the ball and it’s a problem we’ve had all year against curve ball pitchers.”
RCC led the second game 2-0 after five innings before it was postponed by rain.
The Blue Devils scored two runs off a Central Lakes error in the nightcap after going 13 straight innings without scoring a run.
On Saturday, RCC will resume the second game in the bottom of the sixth inning at Dick Seltz Field at noon.
RCC must win that game and another game to keep its season alive.
