WELLS — Blooming Prairie freshman John Rumpza slammed the door on a United Central comeback as the Awesome Blossoms held on to win 7-6 on the road Thursday.

Rumpza took to the mound with BP (5-12 overall) clinging to a one run lead and the Rebels (8-10 overall) had the bases loaded with no outs. Rumpza put down three straight hitters to get the save.

“John did a great job and it was a nail biter,” BP head coach Paul Peterson said. “It was good to finally win one of these close ones, because we’ve lost a few this year.”
