Softball: Sundberg pitches a shutout as Blue Devils settle for a split

WORTHINGTON, MINN. — Austin grad Sara Sundberg pitched a shutout in the first game of a doubleheader as the Blue Devils beat Minnesota West 7-0, but lost the nightcap 10-9.
Sundberg struck out seven and allowed just one hit and five walks in her second mound win of the year for the Blue Devils (2-14 overall, 2-4 MCAC South).
RCC trailed the second game 8-3 before rallying to a 9-8 lead. Minnesota West took the lead in the bottom of the seventh with a bloop single that scored two runs and the game ended when RCC’s Haley Underwood lined out with the tying run on third in the top of the seventh.
Underwood, an Austin senior, finished four-for-six with a triple and an RBI in the double header and Southland grad Kim Craig was four-for-six with a double and three RBIs on the day.
