A Mapleview man is in the Mower County jail after he allegedly struck another man in the back of the head with a baseball bat on Sunday evening.

According to Sheriff Terese Amazi, Mower County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Galuak Michael Rotgai, 28, at City Limits Apartments after witnesses allegedly said Rotgai struck a 39-year-old Sudanese man in the head after arguing over a DVD.

Amazi said bystanders tried to give the victim first aid before authorities arrived. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and arrested Rotgai without any further struggles.

The victim was airlifted to St. Marys Hospital shortly after the attack; however, St. Marys officials have not released the man’s identity. According to Amazi, the victim may have been surviving on life support as of Monday afternoon, but St. Marys officials would not release any more info.

According to Amazi, Rotgai will be charged in Mower County Court with attempted second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court today.
